Slow Ways
The national Slow Ways project aims to identify walking routes linking populations in cities, towns and villages. Visit the Slow Ways website at beta.slowways.org
Suggested and mapped by volunteers, there are currently over 7,000 Slow Ways routes to click on and explore. Initially many of these routes were added by tracking routes on OS maps. The challenge now is to walk, review and verify them all - checking over 100,000km of routes - to make sure they work ‘on the ground’. The aim is to have a nationwide walking network of trusted routes. The map of routes shows all the routes. Those coloured violet have been reviewed by at least three people. Those coloured green still need to be verified. There are still some in the Bristol area that need to be verified.
This year Slow Ways successfully launched the experimental Make Ways pilot. Contributors can highlight good ways, bad ways and wishes for new ways across the country. Details of how you can help.
